Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, stated that Afghanistan cannot be left alone and that OIC member states must play their role for the country’s lasting peace and stability.
He made these remarks during the first meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to a statement released by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar urged OIC member countries to ensure unconditional humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan, reactivate trade and banking systems, expand regional connectivity, and engage in dialogue with Afghan authorities to fulfill their international commitments.
He also expressed deep concern about terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil, stating that these groups pose a threat to regional peace and security. He called on Afghan authorities to take firm and verifiable steps against cross-border terrorism.
The statement says that Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s position and proposed the formation of an OIC experts’ working group to create a roadmap for Afghanistan’s stability. He said that lasting peace requires sincerity, mutual respect, and political commitment.
