At least 12 Pakistani soldiers were martyred and four wounded in an ambush on a military convoy in the Bader Valley of South Waziristan Upper district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials confirmed. The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a banned militant group, claimed responsibility for the attack, asserting that its fighters seized weapons from security forces during the engagement.

This is the deadliest attack on security forces in South Waziristan Upper since December 2024, when a similar TTP ambush killed 16 soldiers, prompting retaliatory airstrikes by Pakistan into Afghanistan. The wounded soldiers have been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. A large-scale search operation is underway to apprehend those responsible.

In response to the attack, authorities in South Waziristan Upper imposed a curfew from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM on September 13, 2025. Movement and businesses will be restricted during this period. The curfew affects the following routes:

  • Spinkai Ragzai – Nazar Khel
  • Dargai Pul – Madi Jan – Sheen Warsak – Moula Khan Sarai – Chagmlai

District administration officials have urged travellers from Dera Ismail Khan and Tank to avoid traveling to South Waziristan Upper, except in emergencies and with permission from police or security forces.
