Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar departed for Bangladesh on Saturday, marking the first official visit by a Pakistani foreign minister to Dhaka in 13 years. The visit, at the invitation of the Bangladeshi government, is seen as a significant step forward in strengthening relations between the two countries.

The Foreign Office described the visit as a “significant milestone,” highlighting the renewed commitment to improving bilateral ties. During his two-day stay (August 23-24), Dar will meet with key Bangladeshi officials, including Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and Adviser for Foreign Affairs Touhid Hossain. Discussions will cover a wide range of issues, including bilateral relations and regional concerns.

The visit comes amidst a period of warming relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh, following a period of strained relations. Several recent developments, including the resumption of sea trade last year, the expansion of government-to-government commerce in February, and the recent agreement in principle to grant visa-free entry to holders of diplomatic and official passports, demonstrate a clear commitment to improving cooperation. High-level meetings between commerce ministers and military commanders further underscore this positive momentum.

The two countries are expected to sign several trade agreements during Dar’s visit, solidifying their commitment to economic collaboration.
