Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Islamabad on August 21, 2025, to discuss regional security and counter-terrorism. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting highlighted the enduring strategic partnership between the two nations.
Minister Wang, who was in Pakistan for the sixth Pakistan-China Strategic Dialogue, reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s sovereignty and development. He also stressed the importance of enhanced security dialogue, strengthened law enforcement cooperation, and a more robust fight against transnational terrorism. This echoed sentiments expressed earlier in Kabul, where Wang met with his Afghan counterpart, emphasizing China’s commitment to supporting its neighbors and opposing external interference.
According to ISPR, COAS Munir expressed gratitude for China’s continued support and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership. Both sides agreed to enhance coordination on regional and international platforms, focusing on advancing peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
The meeting underscored the deep military cooperation between Pakistan and China, including joint training, exercises, and military technology collaboration. This strong relationship has been emphasized repeatedly, most recently by COAS Munir on August 1st, who highlighted the pivotal role of the Pak-China partnership in regional stability. Last month, during a visit to Beijing, COAS Munir received praise from Chinese leadership for the Pakistan Army’s contribution to regional peace. The discussions reflect a continued commitment to addressing shared security challenges and maintaining regional stability.
