BHC orders restoration of mobile internet in areas with no security threat

The Balochistan High Court (BHC) has ordered the immediate restoration of mobile internet services across the province, except in areas with specific security concerns. The court also directed the provincial government to revoke its suspension of public transport services.

The ruling came in response to a petition challenging the government’s decision to suspend mobile internet data services until August 31, 2025, citing security concerns related to upcoming Muharram processions. The government had also temporarily suspended public transport.

During the hearing, the Advocate General of Balochistan argued that the suspension was necessary due to security risks. However, the court questioned the extent of these risks, asking if security concerns pervaded the entire province. The Advocate General and Additional Chief Secretary clarified that security concerns were limited to specific areas.

The BHC judges, Chief Justice Rozi Khan Barech and Justice Sardar Ahmed Halimi, ruled that mobile internet and data services must be restored immediately in all areas where no specific security threats exist. The court further instructed the government to reconsider its decision to maintain the suspension until August 31st.

The case has been adjourned until August 21, 2025.
