An operation against terrorists in Bajaur entered its second day on Wednesday, with reports of multiple terrorists being killed. Meanwhile, locals voiced protests against the military action, claiming civilian casualties and damages to multiple homes.

The operation is being carried out with gunship helicopters and artillery and began after a curfew was imposed in 16 areas of Bajaur. The curfew was imposed in Bad-i-Siah Tharkho, Irab, Gat, Agra, Khurchai, Dawagai, Kalan, Legharai, Kitkot, Gillai, Nakhtar, Zarai, Dambarai, Amanato and Zagai.

Local sources told Khabar Kada that at least 11 terrorists have been killed in the operation, while five security personnel were injured. Multiple civilian casualties have also been reported. Reports also said that terrorists were hiding among the civilian population.

Several local leaders including MNA Mubarak Zeb Khan and former MNA Gul Zafar Khan have protested against the operation, claiming that locals were not given ample notice before curfew was imposed. A meeting of the Bajaur Peace Action Committee was also held at the residence of MPA Anwarzeb Khan, where residents of Bajaur called for an immediate end to the operation.

Gul Zafar Khan said that the locals would go to ‘both parties’ and ask them to stop the violence.

Protests were organised in Uamaray and Mamund, with locals saying civilians were facing severe danger from the operation. The protestors demanded an immediate end to the operation.
