The mother of a woman recently killed in Balochistan in the name of ‘honour’ has been sent to jail on a 10-day judicial remand for sharing a video statement on social media justifying her daughter’s murder.

Gul Jan, the mother of Bano Bibi, who was murdered in the Dera Gari area, was presented before a special anti-terrorism court after her two-day police remand ended.

The court ordered Gul Jan’s imprisonment following her controversial video statement. In the video, she declared her daughter’s murder “justified” and claimed the main suspect, Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai, and other accused were innocent.

Police had previously arrested Gul Jan for sharing the video on social media. She was initially presented before the Quetta Anti-Terrorism Court No. 1, where police requested and were granted a two-day remand. Following the remand, she was subsequently sent to jail on judicial remand.

At least 14 other people have already been arrested in connection with the killing, as investigations continue.
