An army major was martyred by “Indian-sponsored terrorists” in Balochistan’s Awaran district, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military’s media wing stated that the incident occurred during an intelligence-based operation targeting terrorists affiliated with the Indian proxy group, Fitna al-Hindustan.
The ISPR reported that during the operation, security forces engaged the terrorist location, killing three “Indian-sponsored” terrorists. However, during the intense exchange of fire, 34-year-old Major Syed Rabnawaz Tariq, a resident of Muzaffarabad, was martyred while bravely leading his troops.
A sanitization operation was subsequently launched to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area. The ISPR emphasized the Pakistani security forces’ determination to eradicate Indian-sponsored terrorism and stated that such sacrifices strengthen their resolve.
Pakistan has experienced a rise in cross-border terrorist incidents since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, particularly in the bordering provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. While May 2025 saw a slight increase in militant attacks, heightened military tensions with India did not lead to a significant escalation in violence from extremist groups.
