Man, woman shot dead in the name of ‘honour’ in Swat

A man and a woman were fatally shot in Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on Sunday evening, July 13th, 2025, in what police are investigating as an honor killing. The incident took place in the Bashigram area of Madyan.

According to a First Information Report (FIR) filed by a relative of the deceased woman, her husband is the prime suspect. Police state that the husband suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship with the male victim. He allegedly shot the man first before returning home and shooting his wife, then further assaulting her with an axe.

The FIR cites premeditated murder (Section 302) and attempted murder (Section 324) of the Pakistan Penal Code. A search is underway to apprehend the suspect, who is currently at large.

Swat police spokesperson Moin Ali confirmed that District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Umar Khan has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident by the DSP Madyan Circle.

This incident follows a series of similar killings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent months, highlighting the ongoing issue of honor killings in Pakistan. Data from the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) indicates that honor killings remain a significant problem nationwide, with a particularly high number of cases reported in Sindh and Punjab in 2024. From January to November 2024, 346 people were victims of honor-related crimes. The figures for 2023 and 2022 were 490 and 590 respectively.
