Terrorist quadcopter attacks kill woman, injure 3 children in Bannu

A woman was killed and three children injured in two separate quadcopter attacks carried out by militants in Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, today.

Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Abbas Kulachi confirmed the incidents, stating that the first attack resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to three children, including two of her own. The victims were transported to a local hospital.

In a second attack, militants targeted the Maryan police station, damaging solar panels on the roof. Police personnel were unharmed in this incident, which marks the third such attack on the station. A search operation is underway to apprehend those responsible.

These attacks follow a pattern of similar incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan over the past year, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region. The increased militant activity is linked to the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)’s termination of a ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

Bannu has experienced a surge in militant attacks in recent months, including a deadly attack on a jirga just last Saturday.
