PM Shehbaz meets Iranian president at ECO summit

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan met with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on Friday on the sidelines of the 17th ECO Summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders reviewed the ongoing bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Iran across various sectors. They expressed satisfaction with the progress made on decisions reached during their previous meeting aimed at further strengthening Pak-Iran relations.

The discussion also covered the evolving regional situation in the context of the recent Israeli aggression against Iran. Prime Minister Sharif lauded President Pezeshkian’s leadership and commended Iran’s decision to pursue a ceasefire during the recent crisis.

Reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Iranian people and government, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to working closely with Iran through dialogue and diplomacy to promote peace in the region.

President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s robust diplomatic support for Iran, including at international forums, during the recent crisis, highlighting Pakistan’s crucial role in de-escalating the conflict.

Prime Minister Sharif also conveyed greetings and best wishes from the Pakistani leadership to Iran’s Supreme Leader.
