At least seven bodies have been recovered after several individuals were reportedly swept away by powerful floodwaters in the Swat River, according to Director General of Rescue 1122 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shah Fahad. A major search and rescue operation is currently underway.
In a statement issued to the media, Mr Fahad said that emergency teams were mobilised shortly after reports emerged of people being carried off by fast-moving waters. Rescue 1122 teams launched a full-scale response, targeting areas believed to be most affected.
“Thus far, the bodies of seven individuals have been recovered,” Mr Fahad confirmed. The operation is focused on five key locations along the river, where search efforts continue under challenging conditions.
Over 80 trained personnel from Rescue 1122 are taking part in the mission. Despite strong currents and difficult terrain, teams remain committed to locating those still missing.
“Despite the force of the water, our rescue and relief activities are ongoing without pause,” Mr Fahad added, commending the resilience and professionalism of the teams on the ground.
Local authorities have urged the public to avoid riverbanks and flood-prone areas, and to adhere to safety guidance issued by emergency services. The situation remains critical as the monsoon season intensifies, bringing heightened risk of flash flooding.
