Islamabad police announced on Tuesday that the murder of Sana Yousaf was the result of ‘repeated rejection’ as confessed by the apprehended suspect Hayat.

A 17-year-old female TikToker, Sana Yousaf, was shot and killed in her Islamabad home on Monday evening. The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concerns about the safety of social media influencers in Pakistan.

Yousaf, who had over 740,000 followers on TikTok, was reportedly at home with her aunt when a suspect, identified as Umar Hayat (also known as “Kaka”), arrived. According to the aunt, a brief conversation preceded the shooting; Yousaf reportedly told the suspect to leave before he shot her twice in the chest.

A murder case has been filed, and police swiftly apprehended Hayat, also known as Kaka, in Faisalabad approximately 20 hours after the crime. The arrest was facilitated by CCTV footage and mobile data analysis. Hayat, also a TikToker, confessed to the murder, claiming to be a friend of the victim. Police recovered the murder weapon and the suspect’s clothing. CCTV footage shows Hayat leaving the scene calmly, apparently using his phone before fleeing in a car.

While the suspect is in custody, the motive remains under investigation. However, IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi said that the murder was the result of ‘repeated rejection’.

This tragic event is the latest in a series of attacks targeting female content creators in Pakistan. Similar incidents have recently been reported in Khushab, Peshawar, Quetta, and Sialkot. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected once the postmortem report is complete.
